ORA-00971: missing SET keyword

by Guest - 2009-06-22 07:06:14.0

Hi

Can someone please help me understand why if the following statement:

SELECT
BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_BRAND_CATEGORY
FROM
CG_REF_CODES BRAND_OWNER_LU,
SEIZURE
WHERE
( BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_LOW_VALUE(+)=SEIZURE.BRAND )
AND ( BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_DOMAIN(+)='BRAND' )
AND (
SEIZURE.BRAND = 'THE ORIGINAL'
)

returns the expected results then why does

UPDATE
CG_REF_CODES BRAND_OWNER_LU,
SEIZURE
SET
BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_BRAND_CATEGORY = 'NEW'
WHERE
( BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_LOW_VALUE(+)=SEIZURE.BRAND )
AND ( BRAND_OWNER_LU.RV_DOMAIN(+)='BRAND' )
AND (
SEIZURE.BRAND = 'THE ORIGINAL'
)

return the ORA-00971 missing SET keyword error?

Just for background info I'm really new to/learning SQL and I
currently tend to run a query in Business Objects and adapt the
generated SQL from the query to meet my needs. To this end I ran the
Select command to derive which table/column I needed to update the
field with. I don't understand why athis error appears as I clearly
have the SET keyword in where I understand to be the correct place.

Regards, Des.

CG_REF_CODES BRAND_OWNER_LU,
SEIZURE

Just Remove the Coma after CG_REF_CODES BRAND_OWNER_LU

and try with CG_REF_CODES BRAND_OWNER_LU SEIZURE

Only with space
